This is me on the last mile of the 10-mile journey up the Bright Angel Trail on the Grand Canyon's South Rim.
It was the longest -- and the best -- mile of my life!
I loved what the show's host, Alison Sweeney, said about how the Grand Canyon was formed. She had the contestants up on one of the Grand Canyon's countless vistas, looking below at the mighty Colorado River. She said that the river worked year-by-year to shape this magnificent sight -- just as the contestents were working to re-shape their own lives.
One of the most amazing experiences I've ever had was hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and making it back to the top. There is something so awesome about seeing what only a fraction of the Grand Canyon visitors see, and to know that I made it.

This is from a family friend who read about my Grand Canyon adventure...
( In 1968 - while still a young, happily married fellow - Kathy & I camped at the Grand Canyon with another couple, Deidre & Dick White... Dick was a quite fit USAF Jet Pilot, and I was in reasonable shape myself... Early one morning, Dick & I went down "Bright Angel Trail" to the Colorado River - coming back up later that afternoon was & still is the most physically exhausting thing I've ever done... I did make it finally in the rapidly coming darkness, but had to send the Rangers back for Dick about 800m from the Summit... We agreed to do it again as Couples - this time being smarter & camping overnight at the River - when he returned from Viet Nam... Dick was shot down 6 months later in that awful War that changed so many Americans lives...).
